Colon Cancer Rates Continue To Drop
Colon cancer may be the third most typical cancer and the 3rd leading reason behind cancer death in America. Yet since it expands gradually from precancerous polyps - small growths on the inner lining of the colon - there's a possibility unavailable with a great many other cancers to avoid it by finding and treating these growths. Colonoscopy screening - where in fact the colon is analyzed with a camera - may also identify any cancer itself in the first stages, improving the opportunity of successful therapy.

By now, lots of people know that symptoms could be difficult to identify In the first stages of colorectal cancer. And as the symptoms don't often become apparent before disease has advanced beyond the original stages, regular screenings will always be encouraged. And today it would appear that regular screenings are seeing results -- in a large way.

"These continuing drops in incidence and mortality show the lifesaving potential of colon cancer screening; a potential that an estimated 23 million Americans between ages 50 and 75 are not benefiting from because they are not up to date on screening," said Richard C. Wender, M.D., American Cancer Society chief cancer control officer.
