East Asian women have some of the most beautiful complexions in the world. Just look at the flawless skin of Japanese women, or what about the impeccable beauty of women from Singapore. It’s not all genetic – just like everyone, they have their issues – but many rely on old-world remedies and skincare secrets from the East that are simple, yet effective. We are delighted to share some of them here:

Japanese WomanSake – for centuries, Japanese rice makers noticed that the hands of the people who washed the rice were always super smooth and soft. No wonder this clear rice wine brew has been a skincare secret for generations. Rice wine is an excellent exfoliant for the face, neck and chest area. It’s also a great detoxifier for the body and smooths rough hands and feet. Its skin regenerating qualities are legendary for reducing wrinkles and fine lines, minimizing pore size and toning the skin. Sake will also fade age spots, soothe irritated skin and ease aching muscles. For face, neck and chest areas simply apply Sake directly to the skin and follow with a moisturizer after it dries. To detox the body and ease aching muscles, add a cup of sake to a warm (not hot) bath. Relax for 10 – 15 minutes and rinse with a cool shower. Want more proof that rice wine does amazing things for your skin? Just look to the manufacturer of SK-II who created a whole line of skincare products which makes use of the powerful liquid – company spokeswoman Cate Blanchette swears by it.

Korean Skin Tightening Mask – Korean women are among the most beauty-conscious in East Asia and, like many of us, they look to ancient recipes that are tried and true for their good looks. Try this pore-tightening facial mask used by many Korean women. It will leave the skin tight, refreshed and hydrated. It’s an ideal home treatment to use right before a special occasion to make you look your best.Cucumber Egg Flour Recipe

Mix the following ingredients:

  • 2 eggs beaten
  • ½ cup Flour
  • 1 mashed Cucumber (peeled)

Blend ingredients well and apply to face. Leave on for 5-10 minutes and rinse with tepid water. The eggs will tighten the skin, the flour will absorb excess oils and the cucumber will refresh and hydrate the skin.

Secret from Banyan Tree Spa – this world-renown luxury spa first opened in Phuket, Thailand in 1994 and has become a major presence in all of Asia as the preeminent spa. It pioneered the tropical garden spa concept with its Eastern therapies and holistic focus on spiritual, mental and physical harmony and reintroduced an exotic blend of ancient health and beauty practices which have been passed down from generation to generation. Among their amazing treatments, they offer a wonderful, yet basic mask that helps remove blemishes, lighten the complexion, tighten pores and soften the skin. Simply follow this basic recipe and you will be just 10 minutes away from feeling, and looking, amazing:

  • 1 Tablespoon Oatmeal
  • 1/3 Teaspoon Tumeric Powder (from any grocery store)
  • 1 Teaspoon Honey
  • ½ Teaspoon Milk Powder
  • 1 Tablespoon hot water

Add the hot water to the oatmeal and mix well. Add remaining ingredients and blend together. Gently massage the paste on face and neck and leave it on for 10 minutes before rinsing off with tepid water. Pat dry and finish with moisturizer.Banyan Tree Spa
