A recent study completed by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) revealed evidence that people who have metabolic syndrome may be at a greater risk for liver cancer. Metabolic syndrome is a condition that involves the presence at least 3 out of 5 medical disorders. A high triglyceride level is one of them. The other four are: High blood pressure Low levels of good cholesterol High fasting blood sugar levels Abdominal obesity Metabolic syndrome is also a risk factor for the development of Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. In fact, there is a well-established connection between metabolic syndrome and Type 2 diabetes. In the NCI study, individuals who had liver cancer were evaluated for the presence of metabolic syndrome in their medical history prior to the cancer diagnose.
