Nonin Medical's Tissue Oximetry System Recognized at Premier Healthcare Alliance Innovation Celebration

MINNEAPOLIS, June 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Nonin Medical announced today that its EQUANOX™ Advance Model 7600 Cerebral/Somatic Oximetry System for adult and pediatric patients was one of only 20 products featured at the Premier healthcare alliance's Innovation Celebration in Nashville, Tenn. Premier is a hospital-owned performance improvement alliance of more than 2,600 hospitals and 84,000 other care sites nationwide. Premier's annual Innovation Celebration recognizes advances in healthcare and industry suppliers who are committed to innovation and improving patient outcomes. Products were selected by a committee of clinicians and other Premier alliance members based on the products' uniqueness, ability to have an impact on an unmet medical need and potential to positively impact patient care.

Nonin's EQUANOX Advance 7600 oximetry system is a noninvasive tissue oximeter used by clinicians to continuously detect oxygen saturation changes in brain and other tissue. The device protects vital organ areas from hypoxia, to help detect stroke and prevent neurological injury or cognitive impairment.

"Nonin Medical is pleased that Premier chose the EQUANOX Advance Cerebral/Somatic Oximetry System for feature at its Innovation Celebration," said Brian Kane, Group Product Manager-Cerebral Oximetry, for Nonin Medical. "Nonin's EQUANOX 7600 system is the first and only device to use a dual light emitting and detecting sensor architecture for industry-leading accuracy.* Our patented EQUANOX technology allows for a more targeted tissue reading while eliminating surface artifacts that interfere with measurement accuracy.** This means that physicians can trust that their patients' oxygen saturation readings are accurate and based on true physiological change, even with patients who have dark skin or low perfusion."

"Those who attend and participate in the Innovation Celebration share Premier's commitment to providing innovative, valuable products to our members that impact healthcare's safety, quality and cost," said Durral Gilbert, senior vice president, Supply Chain Emerging Services, for Premier. "These innovations will truly benefit people across the nation as healthcare providers continue to improve care."

The new products were featured during Premier's 2012 Breakthroughs Conference and Exhibition in Nashville. Nearly 4,500 healthcare providers and experts attended the conference June 5-8.
