Doctors No Longer Able to Prescribe Injectables Remotely

Yesterday, the General Medical Council (GMC) made the decision to ban doctors from prescribing anti-ageing drugs such as Botox® over the telephone unless they have already met the patient.

Botox® is a drug and deemed potentially dangerous if it isn't used correctly and the GMC now believe that a face-to-face meeting between a doctor and the patient must take place before the patient can begin receiving injectable treatment.

New rules regarding prescriptions are scheduled to be published later this week.

GMC chief executive, Nial Dickson said: "There are good reasons why these are prescription-only medicines and we believe doctors should assess any patient in person before issuing a prescription of this kind."

In most cases Botox® is used to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles as well as cases of excessive perspiration. The treatment is non-permanent, non-invasive and requires little recovery time for patients.
