As a vegan, it’s likely that you use supplements in a few areas to be sure that your body receives all of its required nutrients. These might include Vitamin B12, Calcium, Iodine, Vitamin D, or other variations you might need to bolster your daily nutritional intake. In taking further steps to “veganize your life,” be sure, however, that your vitamins are vegan, also. Gelatin, a substance derived from animal bones and tissues, is a key ingredient in many non-vegan vitamin casings. Other animal-derived ingredients might include shellacs and beeswax, among others. Check your medicine cabinets and be sure that you are not unknowingly consuming animal products with your daily supplements!

To be sure you’re using vegan supplements, look for “veg capsules” and certified vegan labels on the brands you choose. Country Life, NOW, Garden of Life are some supplement brands that feature veggie capsules (keep in mind that in most cases, you’ll even need to check “veg capsules” to make sure they don’t contain milk derivatives). If you want to make the search even easier, check out Deva Vegan — a great line that features exclusively vegan products. You’ll find most of these brands at your local natural grocer. Lastly, as you sort through your supplements, be proud of the work you’re doing to keep veganizing your life and bettering our planet!
