bulimia and kidney infection

bulimia and kidney infection

Bulimia is characterized by people who experience episodes of binge eating or feeling a lack control over an eating episode and recurrent inappropriate behaviors to prevent weight gain twice a week for at least 3 months.

Many boys and girls suffer today from eating disorders, which include bulimia, anorexia and binge eating.

All of these disorders can be life-threatening because of the medical issues that result. These medical issues include, but are not limited to:

  • Acid Reflux
  • Amenorrhea (loss of menstrual cycle)
  • Bone density problems (Osteoperosis)
  • Dehydration
  • Dental problems
  • Digestive difficulties
  • Dry skin, hair, and nails and hair loss
  • Infertility
  • Iron-deficiency anemia
  • Bulimia kidney infection and failure
  • Liver failure
  • Low blood pressure or hypotension
  • Low body temperature
  • Low platelet count
  • Malnutrition
  • Muscle Atrophy
  • Seizures
  • Sleep problems
  • Tearing of esophagus
  • Weakness and fatigue

These medical conditions can have a devastating effect on the body, the family and the emotional and psychological health of the sufferer. Death can even happen after the person has stopped the destructive behavior and is no longer binging and purging.

The kidneys in the body are there to help clean the toxins and waste products from the body, they maintain your fluid balance and regulate other hormones and acid concentration. Conditions that affect the health of the kidneys include vitamin deficiencies, dehydration, infection and low blood pressure.

Vitamins are necessary for the appropriate replication of the kidney cells and the continued function of the organ. Dehydration of the body makes the kidneys work harder to eliminate waste products from a system that doesnt have enough fluid to transport them out of the body. Low blood pressure will keep adequate blood supply from reaching the kidneys and thus there is cell damage done to the organ itself.

All of these problems with vitamins, blood pressure, dehydration and infection are not uncommon in bulimia kidney infections. These conditions result in permanent kidney damage and kidney failure over a long period of time.

Kidney infections are also known as pylonephritis and happen when a persons resistance to bacterial infections is low and bacteria are present in the urinary tract, most likely the bladder. With a decreased vitamin intake, dehydration and low blood pressure a person with bulimia has a higher risk of kidney infection as a result of the side effects of their eating disorder.

Unfortunately death is another of the side effects of the eating disorder that can result from frequent kidney infections and kidney failure. A bulimia kidney infection is a medical condition that presents more frequently in people who have this eating disorder and also have an immune system that isnt capable of fighting off the bacteria effectively.
