Sterling Insurance Expands Critical Condition Product

Sterling Insurance Expands Critical Condition Product

BELLINGHAM, Wash., May 15, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Sterling Insurance is proud to announce the expansion of Sterling Critical Condition in 18 additional states, increasing the availability to 31 states. With plans offered by Sterling Insurance agents in most U.S. states, more Americans will now have access to this new type of insurance. The plan covers 11 critical illnesses including: cancer, stroke, heart attack, paralysis, loss of sight, loss of speech, deafness, benign brain tumor, major organ transplant, severe burns, and kidney failure.

Critical illness or critical condition insurance was introduced in the U.S. in the mid-1990s and there is growing interest in this type of plan. Sterling Critical Condition pays a lump-sum directly to the customer when diagnosed or treated for a covered condition. The cash benefit can be used however the policyholder chooses, such as making mortgage payments, replacing lost income from work, and helping with co-payments and deductibles.  All of this helps ease the financial burden of a critical illness and allows families to focus on treatment and recovery.

"Major medical insurance does not cover all expenses when a person has cancer or a critical illness," said Gerald Reilly , Vice President of Product Development of Sterling Insurance.  "There are often indirect costs like lost income from missed work, travel and lodging expenses, childcare expenses, or payments for experimental or alternative treatments.  Sterling's Critical Condition plan is specifically designed to pay for these kinds of expenses, above and beyond what is covered by a major medical plan."
