Evergreen Healthcare Foundation Gala Raises Nearly $1.1 Million to Benefit Breast Health Center

Evergreen Healthcare Foundation Gala Raises Nearly $1.1 Million to Benefit Breast Health Center

KIRKLAND, Wash., April 29, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Evergreen Healthcare Foundation raised nearly $1.1 million for Women's Health Services at Evergreen thanks to the generous support of more than 700 guests of this evening's 11th annual gala.  The proceeds raised at this year's event will support the organization's commitment to provide women with breakthrough technology, education, diagnosis and quality care.

The "Esplendor de Espana" gala brought together community leaders, local executives, leading physicians and friends of the hospital at King County's Marymoor Park on Saturday, April 28, with the goal of directly funding a need within Evergreen's Breast Health Center.

With this year's donations the organization seeks to complement its current services offered at the medical center's Breast Health Center with the addition of advanced 3D screening and diagnostic technology onboard its mobile mammography coach.

Proceeds from the 2011 Evergreen Gala funded the organization's first 3D mammography screening unit, also known as tomosynthesis, which made Evergreen the first King County medical center to provide the technology.  This year, Evergreen will increase the number of women who will benefit from the unit's diagnostic advantages.

"We are so grateful for the support and generosity of this community," said Evergreen Healthcare CEO Bob Malte.  "The generous contributions of volunteers, physicians, donors and friends of the organization are a reflection of the character of the community that we're so proud to serve.  Thanks to their on-going support, we continue to provide breakthrough clinical care and distinguished service, not only within the Breast Health Center but across our entire spectrum of clinical care."

This year's gala also provided an opportunity to recognize Evergreen's 40 years of commitment to meeting the healthcare needs of the growing Eastside community, which it has served since 1972.

The benefit for the Breast Health Center comes as Evergreen prepares to unveil the new Elling & Barbara Halvorson Cancer Center.  Opening at the end of 2012, the new center is a 26,000-square-foot facility that will coordinate and integrate the most comprehensive cancer services in the area.

This year's gala also honored Trish May with the annual Spirit of Giving Award as part of Evergreen's ongoing commitment to recognize those whose selfless contributions are crucial to health and well-being within the community.  May is the founder of Athena Partners, a local non-profit that sells Athena-branded bottled water and donates 100 percent of net profits to breast cancer awareness, research and treatment.

The Evergreen Gala is the largest fundraiser supporting Evergreen Healthcare's programs.  In past years, it has supported Evergreen's Cancer Services, Cardiovascular Services, Evergreen Neuroscience Institute, the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Department expansion and the Evergreen Nursing Institute.
