The book tells the contemporary edgy romance of aspiring psychiatrist and high school Valedictorian Samantha Sullivan, who works as a volunteer peer counselor at a teen and young adult call center. When she receives a call from a deeply troubled young man who goes by "Daggers," she helps to peel the layers of Daggers' problems, and some of her own issues from the past begin to resurface. Past, present and future collide, as Daggers is the only one who can save her.
Among the issues the book deals with are: abuse, alcoholism, self-esteem, sexual addiction, pregnancy, bullying, cutting and dating.
Author Kailin Gow has worked as a peer adviser to young women at the Women's Resource Center at the University of California at Irvine in Irvine, California and hosted a radio show on women's/girl's issues there as well.
